What is a Gun Sense Candidate?

The Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate program is meant to signal to our more than 8 million supporters, volunteers, and gun safety voters across the country that if elected, a candidate will govern with gun safety in mind. This means they will stand for safer communities and advocate for better gun laws. Multiple candidates in a race can receive the distinction, and just like common-sense gun safety, it is non-partisan.

THE MATRIOTS PAC IS A NONPARTISAN POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING, ENDORSING, AND ENCOURAGING OHIO WOMEN CANDIDATES.

The Matriots PAC was founded in 2017 by Ohio women in response to the significant underrepresentation of women in Ohio politics. It is not right that just 29% of all elected offices in Ohio are held by women.

Ohio Supreme Court Candidates

Over 70% of Ohioans voted to demand fair district maps and the current republican super majority have continued to ignore the will of the people. For months they refused to come to the table to produce bipartisan and fair maps. They ignored the voters that came to speak at public hearings; some even left the building while there were people still waiting to be heard. Instead the republicans spent their time attempting to impeach one of their own, Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor.

It is clear with the corruption at the Statehouse that we need to protect this branch of our government with Supreme Court Justices that are not biased in their rulings; these three women are more than qualified. They are trailblazers in their own right. They believe in the importance of family and have worked towards getting to the root of the issue rather than losing non violent offenders to the system. They have many accomplishments and if you would like to help them, please visit their websites, their social media pages and get involved. They are currently working on a postcard initiative if you would like to help. You can also contact your local democratic party and they can point you in the right direction.

Justice Melody Stewart became Ohio’s first African American woman elected to the Supreme Court.

On the Supreme Court, Justice Stewart has stood firm for our democracy. When a handful of powerful politicians drew legislative districts that unconstitutionally favor one political party over another, she authored the first opinion that struck down the map of those districts.  She will stand strong against unlawful partisan schemes that threaten our democracy and our freedoms and that undermine the will of the people.

Melody Stewart is the most experienced appellate jurist on the Ohio Supreme Court.  She served on the Ohio Court of Appeals for 12 years before being elected to the Supreme Court.  She is highly rated by bar associations and has been endorsed by national, state, regional, and local organizations including labor, educational, public safety, and community groups, and civic leaders.

During his time on the bench Justice Donnelly’s independence, impartiality, insight, and knowledge have earned the respect of his colleagues, the legal community, and the citizens of Ohio. His thoughtful votes and well-reasoned opinions, including those rendered in the most consequential cases to come before the Court in decades, reflect his unwavering commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring that every person receives equal treatment under the law.

The opinions Justice Donnelly authored during his five impactful years on Ohio’s highest court, along with his continued efforts to close Ohio’s justice gap, utilize data to promote equity in sentencing, and make the justice system more transparent, accountable, and efficient, argue strongly for his reelection,

Supreme Court

Judge Lisa Forbes was elected to the 8th District Court of Appeals in 2021.

Elected to the bench in 2020, Judge Lisa Forbes has extensive experience in the courts of appeals and trial courts across Ohio, at both the state and federal levels. Her expert approach to handling intricate cases has earned her the highest peer rating by lawyers. As a business litigator and a partner at  the Cleveland office of a national law firm,  she helped her clients resolve disputes ranging from complex business litigation, to consumer class actions, to legal malpractice to trust and estate disputes, and so much more.

"While people of the state of Ohio have passed a pro-abortion rights constitutional amendment, that would be implemented through lawsuits. It’s ultimately up to the state Supreme Court and the composition of the court to decide how broadly they will interpret it."

Judge  Forbes'  service on various boards helps provide access to opportunity for some of Cuyahoga County’s most vulnerable residents:  Center for Families and Children, Board of Directors, Circle Health, Board of Director, El Barrio Board of Directors.  Lisa Forbes’ service to our community includes membership on the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Certified Grievance Committee; the Ohio State Bar Association, Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section council; and the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network.  In the past, Lisa Forbes has also been involved with the Ohio Women’s Bar Association, Eighth District Trustee, Recipient of the OWBA's President's Choice Award 2002, Federal Bar Association, Board of Directors.

United State Senator

Each state has two senators that represent them in Congress, this seat is currently held by JD Vance. He is currently the Vice Presidential candidate on the Republican ticket this year and will be replaced if he succeeds. Sherrod Brown is Ohio's other senator and has worked tirelessly for Ohioan's.

The Democrats have lost the majority in Congress and it is vital that we vote for as many Democrats across the nation as possible. The former administration has promised to become a dictator on day one. While Trump has tried to distance himself from Project 2025 his running mate has written the forward for the book that will be available to the American public only after the election this fall.

Project 2025 when enacted will destroy the freedoms we hold dear. They will redefine women's healthcare and their limited roles in society. They will privatize a number of safety nets the government has used since the Great Depression. We have already seen a rise in communicative diseases since the started passing law prohibiting vaccines for public schools, healthcare workers, and public employees.

We must do our part to elect another Democrat to Congress.

US Senator

Sherrod Brown has spent his career fighting for Ohio workers and their families.

A lifelong Ohioan, Senator Sherrod Brown has spent his career fighting for the Dignity of Work – the idea that hard work should pay off for everyone, no matter who you are, where you live, or what kind of work you do. He has held nearly 500 roundtables across Ohio, because he believes the best ideas don’t come out of Washington – they come from conversations with Ohioans across our state.

Building on his successful work to make the Earned Income Tax Credit permanent, Senator Brown has a plan to overhaul our tax code to put people first, and to make hard work pay off for more Americans. That includes putting more money back in the pockets of workers and families, giving workers more power in the workplace, making it easier to save for retirement, and encouraging companies to invest in their greatest asset: the American worker. Senator Brown also believes we need to broaden our definition of work – caring for children or an aging parent is work, and so is getting an education.

U.S. House of Representatives

The U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate make up the two chambers of Congress. The House has 435 members, the number representing each state is determined by population. Ohio has 15 Representatives overall. Clark County currently is broken up so that we have two Congressional House of Representatives, Mike Turner and Mike Carey.
You may recall that Mike Turner promised to do something about gun safety after his daughter was in the Oregon District that fateful night. Like many other Republican official's he fell short. Trump backed candidate, Mike Carey a former coal lobbyist played his part in the energy scandal that rocked Ohio, House Bill 6.

We must do our part to elect another Democrat to Congress.

U.S. House Representative District 10

State Rep. 10th District

Amy Cox will fight for your freedoms and return common sense to Congress

Amy will firmly defend the working class because she IS the working class!  Amy has been a victim of garbage Right to Work legislation that is nothing more than organized wage suppression on the working class. In 2016 she fiercely went to bat for her colleagues over unfair labor practices, by speaking out at a board meeting and submitting an Op-Ed to the local newspaper, shaming the practices for what they were…a form of wage suppression.  As a result, Amy received letters of support from current and former school faculty and administration and the employees received their owed wages within 48 hours.

When elected to The United States Congress, Amy Cox will listen to you – the people. Amy will fight to expand safety services, grow Ohio’s economy, address homelessness and poverty, the growing opioid and meth epidemic, and improve our infrastructure to help create a better Ohio and America for all citizens.

Amy Cox will fight for the people, not power.

U.S. House Representative District 15

Adam Miller's experience at our Ohio Statehouse and military service makes him the perfect candidate to defend our national freedoms.

A proud resident of Ohio, State Representative Adam Miller has spent his career advocating for education, social justice, and veterans' affairs. Adam's public service extends to his distinguished twenty-eight year military career. He is a Colonel in the U.S. Army JAG Corps (Reserve)* and a combat veteran with multiple overseas tours, including two deployments to Afghanistan. His roles in military leadership, particularly as Rule of Law Director for NATO/US Forces in Afghanistan, highlight his expertise in international affairs and dedication to national security.

Adam is a tireless supporter of the American worker. He strongly believes that workers deserve fair pay, retirement security, safe working conditions, affordable healthcare, and guaranteed paid time off. He supports restoring the right of workers to freely and fairly form a union and bargain together for changes in the workplace. That's why he supports the PRO Act. American economic supremacy is based on the power and strength of the American worker. When management and labor work together, we all win.

State Board of Education

What makes Mary Binegar qualified to serve on the State Board of Education

The primary purpose of the Board of Education is to oversee the PK-12 education system in Ohio through the creation of policies to direct the Ohio Department of Education to ensure all students receive a high quality education. My background as a public school teacher for thirty years has given me a good understanding on how our education system functions.. Also my experience serving on three statewide committees as a representative for OEA (KnowledgeWorks Fellows Program, State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children, and Ohio’s Committee of Practitioners) provided many opportunities to work with the Department of Education staff members and State Board members on various statewide issues. Additionally, working the last twenty years with NEA’s Special Education Cadre has kept me abreast of federal  education issues. I believe these experiences make me qualified to serve on the State Board of Education.
