It is not only imperative that we women have a seat at the table--we must also lead the conversation. Women’s Issues Network did just that on April 9th, 2024 when we hosted our 3rd Annual Women’s History Month Dinner. We were honored to hear from a group of strong female leaders that are working tirelessly to make a difference here in Ohio for you and me.

     Ohio State Representative Laytna Humphrey captivated the room with her strong and motivational message.  Rep. Humphrey is a former school teacher and union leader. She has been serving Ohioans in the Ohio House since October 2021. She made headlines after introducing a bill that would require correctional facilities to supply feminine hygiene products. She has also co-sponsored bills to increase the minimum wage by championing the Ohio Equal Pay Act. She has fought to eliminate the loopholes regarding sexual assault. She has pushed other bills that are aimed to assist Ohioans who struggle financially.

     Social activist, founder, president and executive director of the nonprofit Columbus-based organization My Project USA, Zerqa Abid spoke about her former campaign. Even though it wasn’t successful, she is undeterred and looking towards the future.

 

     Amy Cox, our final speaker of the evening, shared with us just why she believes she is the right person to represent Clark County as the next member of the U. S. House for Ohio’s 10th district. Like Representative Humphrey, she also comes from an education background.
